Powered by Microturbo’s TR 60-5 turbojet engine, Saab's latest generation anti-ship missile, the RBS15 Mk3, has successfully completed its final qualification launch

Microturbo (a SAFRAN Group company and subsidiary of Turbomeca), specialist in turbojet engines for tactical missiles, powers Saab's latest generation RBS15 Mk3 missile with its TR 60-5 turbojet engine; the qualification launch program of this missile has just been successfully completed. The TR 60-5 turbojet engine is one of the most versatile in Microturbo's range.

Toulouse - November 3rd, 2008

October 8th, Saab Bofors Dynamics and Dielh BGT Defense successfully completed the final tests to check the missile system as a functional entity. This successful long-range firing of the anti-ship missile is the final stage of an extensive qualification launch program which began in 2006.

Developed by Microturbo, the TR 60-5 turbojet engine, with its new variable thrust capability, enabled the strike velocity of the missile to be automatically adapted at a predefined moment, whereas the terminal manoeuvres were sustained using maximum thrust and speed.

The TR 60-5 is an optimized version of the TR 60 concept, characterised by its three-stage axial compressor. The TR 60 5 is produced on a large scale for the RBS15 Mk3 application, and there are other versions optimized for target drones and unmanned aircraft.

Microturbo, a SAFRAN Group company and subsidiary of Turbomeca, is specialized in the design, development and production of low power gas turbine systems. Its activity focuses on three product lines: auxiliary power units, turbojet engines for missiles and target drones, and starting systems.
